The long mooted Prince of Persia film has finally set a start date and a location, even though no cast has yet been announced. Director Mike Newell and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are going to be shooting in Morocco and Pinewood Studios from mid-June.

Based on the hit series of video games, expect this to feature lots of magic, sword-fighting and jumping around in Hammer pants - so a bit like Pirates of the Caribbean then (and sure enough, it's a Bruckheimer-Disney release that they're hoping to turn into a franchise).

Newell, who's done big action before with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, will be directing a script by The Day After Tomorrow's Jeffrey Nachmanoff and game creator Jordan Mechner. That mid-June start date is dependant on the planned SAG strike not actually going ahead, and also on finding their cast by then. Let's keep fingers crossed they get someone actually Persian for the job.
