Director Dean Israelite clearly enjoys making movies about unusual objects. He broke in via Project Almanac and went from the there to the alien craft of Power Rangers. And now Amblin Partners has hired him to make Unexplained Phenomenon.

The new movie marks a reunion of the Almanac team, as writers Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman are aboard to provide the script. Phenomenon sees a family discovering a mysterious, otherworldly doohickey that slowly starts to change their lives. Soon, it's attracting the attention of an expert whose teenage daughter might just have a connection to the object's past. Spoiler alert: we bet she does.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story inspired by real events and looks to channel the likes of E.T. and Poltergeist, so you can see why Amblin is working on this one.
