No more will Empire Online readers be able to whinge about the the lack of alcoholic beverages in the majority of British cinemas. Soon you'll all be able to chug boxes of popcorn instead. In a move that will surely please all who enjoy a good film while in their cups, Odeon Cinemas is launching a new range of alco-popcorn. The result of polling the cinemagoing public in a bid to find out if people want more from their freshly popped kernels, the cinema chain has devised Sambuca and Irish Cream varieties for all who think simple salt or sweet a touch pedestrian. The two flavours will be frontrunners for a possible larger range of spirit-imbued popcorns if demand is sufficiently high. 'Feedback from customers was that they'd like more choice of popcorn flavours and alcohol flavoured popcorn turned out to be a popular request,' said a spokesman from Odeon. 'We'll obviously only be limiting it to 18 certificate films, strictly for adults only!' The intoxicating popcorn will be premiered at last-night showings of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Hallowe'en in selected Odeons across the nation. But before you get all excited about your night out on the pop, do bear in mind that the average box of said popcorn will only contain as much alcohol as a single liqueur chocolate, meaning it will take a veritable truckload to see you even slightly trolleyed before the titles come up.
