Ponyo English-Language Voice Cast

The English-language voice cast for Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea, the latest animated film and, fingers crossed, the latest masterpiece from genius director Hayao Mayazaki, has been revealed – and it’s pretty starry.

Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin, former Golden Girl Betty White, Fankie Jonas, Noah Cyrys and Cloris Leachman have all signed on to add their voices to the redub of Miyazaki’s movie, which is due for release in the UK next April.

Generally speaking, we’d advise against English-language redubs of foreign-language movies, but given the esteem in which Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is held by fellow filmmakers, we’re sure that this one will be a cut above the norm. The new version is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, so it’s in good hands.

**Ponyo **tells the story of a 5 year-old boy who befriends a goldfish princess who wants to become human. And we’re sure that’s just the beginning of another beguiling, ever-so-slightly trippy fantasy from a master of the medium. Can’t. Wait.

(Although, if you want to catch the original version, it’s been out for a while now in various countries around the world, including of course, Japan.)
