Poitier Honoured

Sidney Poitier has been selected as the 36th recipient of the Screen Actors Guild's Life Achievement Award it was announced yesterday. 'The Screen Actors Guild is proud to recognize Sidney Poitier, a major feature film star for over four decades,' said SAG President Richard Masur. 'His body of work is significant not only because of its sheer acting brilliance, but because much of it forced America into examining racial prejudice. If there was ever an actor whose life and work influenced his time, it is Sidney Poitier.' In accepting the award, Poitier follows in the footsteps of screen legends such as Elizabeth Taylor and Kirk Douglas.
