Comics writer says maybe...

Pixar Summoning Dr Strange?

Strictly, strictly a pipe dream at the moment, but we'd be neglecting our duty if we didn't pass on the word that, in some circles this morning, Marvel's in-the-works Dr Strange movie is being talked about in the same breath as Pixar. Is the Marvel / Disney merger finally going to bear that tantalising fruit?

The story comes from comics writer and artist Brendan McCarthy, whose Spider-Man: Fever features the mystical Stephen Strange alongside Peter Parker. Talking about the project to Bad Librarianship, McCarthy let slip that "I was over in Hollywood earlier this year, mooching about, and I had a meeting at Disney, and the conversation drifted around to Pixar animating the Dr Strange movie. Wouldn't that be nice?"

"Wouldn't that be nice?" is of course, a long way from "Isn't it great that this is happening?" but we're still quite excited that the idea has even been casually mooted. If the Marvel plan is still to produce a series of shorts based on its lesser-known properties, then Pixar might indeed be a very good fit: imagine a Pixar Dr Strange short as a support feature for The Avengers, for example. Or perhaps, as the presence of Conan writers Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly on script duties seems to attest, we're looking at a full feature...

Whatever, even if it came to pass it seems unlikely that any Dr Strange film is very close to our screens. File this under a Spock-like "fascinating" for the time being, and watch this space for updates.
