Though he stepped aboard the project back in 2010, David Fincher has been taking a slow and steady approach in developing a new version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea at Disney. The last time it pinged our news sonar, Andrew Kevin Walker had been hired to rewrite the script into shipshape fashion, and things have been awfully quiet since. But now comes word from Variety that Fincher is trying to get Brad Pitt to play Ned Land in the film.
Land, a sailor and talented hand at the harpoon, was previously brought to life by Kirk Douglas in the 1954 adaptation. If Pitt did agree to play him, he’d naturally be a key part of the new movie alongside whoever agrees to star as Nemo.
The Mouse House has yet to set the green lantern ablaze to kick off even pre-production, so don’t expect swift movement just yet. Fincher is also considering other projects, including Steven Zaillian’s script for The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest, which may go ahead despite the perception that** Dragon Tattoo** didn’t quite perform as well as hoped (though it still made $233 million worldwide, no small achievement for a dark, mature thriller).
It would be intriguing to see the two old Seven / Benjamin Button / Fight Club friends reunite for a big adventure film, but for now, we’re simply going to have to settle for crossing our fingers.[[Poll804]]
