We’re starting to wish that Marvel and Captain America director Joe Johnston would either lock up their choice for hero Steve Rogers or keep their secrets closer to their chest, as there’s been yet another contender on the Possible Lead List: Ryan Phillippe.

He’s just the latest floated name, according to the team at Hitfix, with the likes of Mike Vogel, Garrett Hedlund, Chris Evans, Scott Porter and others already under consideration and The Office’s John Krasinski out of the running. Or maybe not…

But for now, Phillippe is simply one more actor, who has either read, screen-tested or has been approached about the role. That, or possibly he just had lunch with the director's second cousin's gardener's sister and the rumours spread from there, for all we know.

And at least the film appears to have locked in a villain in Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull.

**Update (try to look shocked): **According to Deadline New York, Channing Tatum is also now in the mix. And the producers are considering Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt for the female lead, Peggy. We're not surprised at Blunt in particular, given her near-miss with **Iron Man 2'**s Black Widow...
