He's played Satan, a snuff-porn director and the guy who fed Steve Buscemi into the woodchipper, and now Peter Stormare is about to add to his rogues gallery, playing a crooked sheriff in **Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters.

There are few details about the role so far, other than that his name is Berringer, but we might infer that, since he's a villain, he'll cross paths with Gemma Arterton's Gretel and Jeremy Renner's Hansel at some point in the proceedings. He can't be the principal big bad (that's Famke Janssen's witch) but we'd guess that he's possibly the equivalent of one of those self-serving Hammer-horror burgomeisters who generally meet an unpleasant end. Hoorah!

Hansel And Gretel is an action version of the classic tale, with the siblings all grown up and out for some kick-ass revenge on evil crones far and wide. The film has been set up at Paramount via Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions. Tommy Wirkola, who made the Nazi-zombie epic Dead Snow, is behind the camera for a March 7 start date.
