Peter Berg To Direct Edwin A Salt?

Entertainment Weekly has learned that Peter Berg, director of The Kingdom and next year's Hancock, is in line to call the orders on Edwin A Salt, a film being developed for Tom Cruise.

Edwin A Salt, written by Kurt Wimmer, tells of a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. The film sees him try to avoid capture by the government, reach his family and prove his innocence.

Berg is currently one of Hollywood's most underrated directors – the little seen Friday Night Lights is one of the greatest sporting movies ever made and the Will Smith comedy Hancock looks terrific from the trailer – so studios can throw as many movies his way as they like, as far as we're concerned.
