Paul Giamatti Playing Philip K Dick?

Another Dick biopic planned

Paul Giamatti Playing Philip K Dick?

As confusing and psychedelic as the real life of author Philip K Dick was, the idea that another biopic has been planned about the man has us scratching our heads.

We’ve previously brought wordthat Bill Pullman is being lined up to star as Dick in an indie biopic called Panasonic. Now comes news that no lesser acting giant than Paul Giamatti may well be on tap for an official Dick pic supported by his estate.

While it’s likely that Panasonic will shrivel with this new development, don’t completely count out a Capote-style showdown next year. Giamatti is apparently in negotiations to play the Scanner Darkly scribbler in an untitled film which regular Terry Gilliam collaborator Tony Grisoni will write.

The film is being produced by the Dick estate though its company, Electric Shepherds Productions. And the plot will apparently blend elements of the writer’s life with his writing and also find room for chunks of his last, unfinished tome, The Owl In Daylight.

Hhhm… With such a weird idea and Grisoni writing, might we hope that a certain Mr Gilliam could get involved? Wishful thinking, perhaps (especially given his recent lack of cinematic success), but we can dream.
