With the January shooting start date fast approaching, Brick director Rian Johnson is gathering more cast members for sci-fi killer thriller Looper, adding There Will Be Blood’s Paul Dano to the team.

Looper is a dark, violent thriller that follows a group of hit men who use time-travel to hide their actions. These “Loopers” wait for their bosses to send back chosen victims from the future, and then dispatch them in a time period where no one can identify them. Brick’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt is starring alongside Bruce Willis, with Emily Blunt also aboard.

While Variety broke the news first, The Playlist offers up a couple of extra details, including the fact that Dano’s character is named Seth and while he doesn’t have loads of screen time, he has a pivotal role in the story as one of Gordon-Levitt’s fellow killers. We won’t say anymore for fear of ruining the bigger plot that surrounds the characters.

Dano’s another solid choice in a cast that is already brimming with them, and given how well Johnson handled the tricky Brick and the underappreciated The Brothers Bloom, we’re excited to see what his smart brain does with a heftier budget and effects sequences.
