Though Disney and Lucasfilm had high hopes that Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron would be the next Star Wars film to come soaring out after the conclusion of the most recent sequel trilogy, it appears that her pilots won't be able to lock S-foils in attack position just yet. While it had been planned to shoot next year, scheduling issues mean a delay.
Rogue Squadron, which the Wonder Woman director has come up with inspired by her fighter pilot father, was announced last December and Disney's big investor day. Since then, it has been in development with Jenkins and writer Matthew Robinson and had already been given a release hanger slot for 22 December 2023.
Now, with Jenkins facing other, yet-to-be-specified commitments (she is still attached to a third Wonder Woman film for Warners and a Cleopatra project for Paramount), the start date for Rogue Squadron is being postponed. Whether it keeps the 2023 release date remains to be seen, and if not, Disney may try to have one of its other developing Wars projects fill the space, assuming they'd be ready in time.
