Back in 2004, we had Jude Law voicing Lemony Snicket for the film adaptation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events. The small-screen Netflix version has chosen a much deeper, more American tone, with Patrick Warburton hired to play the man on camera this time.

Planned as an initial eight episodes, the series will adapt Daniel Handler's book and re-tell the story of orphaned kids Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes) and Sunny Baudelaire, who are sent to live with their scheming, villainous uncle Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris, now locked in after a protracted negotiation process). They'll undertake a quest to find the truth behind their parents' mysterious deaths and endeavour to keep their grasping relative's hands off of their inheritance.

Barry Sonnenfeld is directing and working as one of the producers of this one, so Warburton's hiring makes sense as the pair worked together on the live-action TV series based on The Tick comics (and they're collaborating again, as Warburton is attached to be a producer on the new version, though he's too busy on another show to play the title role like last time.)

Sonnenfeld is set to start the cameras rolling this month in Vancouver.
