Ever since the first Paranormal Activity left Saw VI a bleeding pile of mush on the floor of the American box office boxing ring, and the sequel did solid business, this news was pretty much inevitable, but we thought we’d relay it all the same: Paramount is planning a third entry in the fright film franchise.

We know, right?! We were totally surprised too! Who could ever have guess…. Okay, not so much. Dread Central has it on good authority from original writer/director and current producing overlord Oren Peli that a third instalment will hit the States on October 21, 2011, which means that we should see it the same day.

So now comes the nitty gritty: what do you think they’ll follow up from the second movie? And what do you want to see? Should they explain any lingering mysteries, or keep deepening the mythology? And should it be made at all? The second one didn’t turn out to be a franchise killer, but is it third time lucky or the start of a real downhill slide?

Plus, even if the film manages to be brilliant, how can it truly compete with this? We’re just saying… Paramount, if you’re looking for the rights, you know who to call. But if it’s the copyright lawyers looking for a slice, then the number’s been disconnected and there’s no one named Empire at this address.
