We all hoped they might just forget about the idea and stop trying to bottle lightning, but Paramount really is going ahead with the Paranormal Activity sequel, with Saw VI director Kevin Greutert taking over the reigns.

As of yet the script, which will be penned by Michael R Perry, and title are strictly under wraps, which lead us to hope that they're going to avoid a direct follow-up and create something low-fi but also original. This is Hollywood, however.

Oren Peli, the man who cranked out the original for $15,000 and saw it earn $151 million worldwide, won't be directly involved this time, but he is executive producing and dashed off a quick statement to belay our fears: “These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed." Nice try, but we'll wait and see.

And in unsurprising twist, the studio is aiming the sequel squarely at the pre-Halloween weekend next year, which would shove it into direct competition with Saw VII. Given how soundly Paranormal Activity trounced Jigsaw this year (ironically, Greutert was at the helm), it's no surprise the executives want to see if they can kill off the pesky puppet master once and for all.
