Michael Bay’s Pain And Gain features steroid-driven bodybuilders trying to grasp the American Dream by resorting to kidnapping, coercion and murder. And it just opened well across the pond, which means it enjoyed a muscular launch. Muscular! Because: bodybuilders! Right? Eh? Fine… You just want the facts. Which are these: Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg’s latest took in $20 million at the US box office, landing it in the top spot.
Tom Cruise sci-fi pic Oblivion was pushed down to second place, adding $17.4 million for a $64.7 million US total so far. Jackie Robinson biopic 42 scored $10.7 million in third and fourth was new rom-com arrival The Big Wedding, which took in $7.5 million. Fifth place went to The Croods, making $6.6 million.
In sixth was G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which took in $3.6 million ahead of Scary Movie 5 in seventh with $3.4 million. Olympus Has Fallen fell again to eighth and $2.7 million, while The Place Beyond The Pines slipped to ninth with $2.6 million and Jurassic Park 3D went down to 10th with $2.3 million.
Oh, and Iron Man 3 has yet to open in the US but took a whopping $195m internationally, $10m more than Avengers Assemble's international opening weekend tally. No pressure, Thor.
