Having emerged triumphant from the various prequel series that HBO drummed up to replace Game Of Thrones, the channel has started to build the cast for House Of The Dragon. Paddy Considine is the first person to sign on for the show.

House Of The Dragon is set several hundred years before the main GOT story and follows the story of House Targaryen. Considine will be King Viserys I, who chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings...

Thrones novelist George RR Martin created the series along with Ryan Condal, adapting Martin's book Fire And Blood. Condal will run the show with Miguel Sapochnik, while the latter will direct the pilot and several other episodes from the initial order of 10.

This show will be hoping for better fortunes than that of the prequel series that had Naomi Watts aboard and reached pilot stage, before being scrapped. House Of The Dragon should be on screens in 2022. Considine has become something of an HBO regular, having appeared in The Outsider and The Third Day.
