It’s like that old joke: how many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb? Fish. With that in mind, it’s with great bananas that we bring you the news today that Al Pacino has signed on to play artist and showman Salvador Dalí in a new film, Dalí & I: The Surreal Story.

The plot follows the artist through his later years, through his relationship with his art dealer Stan Lauryssens. Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí Domènech, Marquis of Pubol, to give him his full title, was by that stage internationally famous / notorious for his art, and for his unconventional personal life. His wife Gala, for example, was by that stage living in a castle along the coast from the artist, entertaining a string of young men, while her husband called ahead to make appointments to visit her.

The film’s based on the novel by Lauryssens, with a script by Andrew Niccol and John Salvati. Niccol previously directed Pacino on S1m0ne, but he also directed **Gattaca **and scripted The Truman Show, so fingers crossed for this one. Badger.
