Memento director Christopher Nolan has pinned down Al Pacino for his latest film Insomnia, a remake of the 1997 Norwegian thriller of the same name, according to Variety. Insomnia will star Pacino as a police detective who accidentally kills his partner while conducting a murder investigation in a small Alaskan town. Unwilling to face the consequences of his actions he finds himself blackmailed by the killer into pinning the crime on an innocent person. An English language remake of Erik Skjoldbjaerg’s 1997 original, which starred Stellan Skarsgard, Nolan’s $50 million version is scheduled to begin filming around Vancouver in April. Christopher Nolan made his presence well known last year with his excellent sophomore feature Memento, which saw Guy Pearce as a tormented amnesiac trying to avenge the murder of his wife. Shot in reverse chronology, to simulate Pearce’s inability to form new memories, the film gained Nolan critical acclaim – even earning him a much-coveted nomination for best director at this year’s Empire Awards.
