Al Pacino is in negotiations to star in People I Know, playing a New York press agent who gets involved with a mystery involving politics and celebrities. The film will be directed by Dan Algrant, who previously made Naked In New York. Pacino's character has been compared to Bobby Zarem, a legendary publicist. Zarem, like his fictional counterpart, grew up in the South, went to Yale, lives on Manhattan's upper East side and eats at the famous Elaine's restaurant. But Zarem, who is aware of the film, denies that the project is based on his life. Algrant and production company Southfork Pictures are keen to get the ball rolling on the film before the possible actors and writers strikes next summer. But Pacino has another important deadline to meet - the arrival of twins with his actress partner Beverley D'Angelo.
