Because every movie with a mythology needs a comicbook tie-in, this time it's the turn of Pacific Rim Uprising, which makes sense given the decade-long gap between the original and this new entry. The cover for the tie-in, called Pacific Rim Aftermath, is online.

The planned six-issue Legendary Comics series is written by Cavan Scott, with Richard Elson illustrating, and is set nine years after Pacific Rim, one year before Uprising. We'll be introduced to John Boyega's Jake Pentecost as he goes on the hunt for the truth behind his father Stacker's (Idris Elba in the first film) death. In the course of his investigation, he'll meet Griffin, a former Jaeger pilot who works as an enforcer for a mob boss. There will also be a mysterious criminal known as the Mech Czar, a man who rules the underworld with a giant iron fist.

Pacific Rim Aftermath will hit comic stores physically and digitally on 17 January. And Pacific Rim Uprising is out in UK cinemas on 23 March.
