It may or may not end up being named Ascension** as a report at the end of last month mentioned, but we do now know a few more solid details about the follow up to Tron: Legacy. With Joseph Kosinski once again directing and Garrett Hedlund confirmed to play Sam Flynn, Olivia Wilde will be back as Quorra{ =nofollow}.

[Spoiler klaxon] Those who saw Tron: Legacy (and there were enough of you that Disney has been trying to compile a sequel since it came out in 2010) will know that the film ends with Sam escaping the Grid and bringing Quorra with him to the real world. From what Kosinski has said since, the new movie will deal with that situation and follow some other plot strands introduced, including the fact that Cillian Murphy made an appearance near the start as Edward Dillinger, AKA the son of Ed Dillinger, David Warner’s villain from the 1982 original.

Whether he comes back or the character is re-cast might depend on scheduling, as it appears that Disney wants this one shooting this autumn in Vancouver, probably eyeing either a late 2016 or early 2017 release (the effects load for this would probably dictate the latter), but we’ll see.

Hedlund was last seen in Unbroken and is part of the cast for Pan (due July 17) and William Monahan’s Mojave, which doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date. He’s also attached to appear in Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk for Ang Lee. As for Wilde, she worked on horror pic The Lazarus Effect, which has yet to arrive here, and has roles in Meadowland and** Love The Coopers**. She’s also part of Martin Scorsese and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter’s new, untitled rock ‘n’ roll show for HBO.
