Disaster pitch Black Monday

Ah, oil. Such a useful substance. As Mr Burns would tell us, oil wells don’t belong in the hands of Betsy Bleedingheart and Maynard G. Muscovite! But what if a mystery virus suddenly destroyed the world’s supply?

That’s the apocalyptic vision of Black Monday, a thriller being adapted by David Hayter. Bob Weiss’ novel follows a federal investigator who tries to stop the spread of the virus.

"The basic concept is similar conceptually to The Day After Tomorrow, in that it is highly visual and exciting, but it is socially conscious with something to say," Hayter tells Variety. "We find out how disastrous it is to be so heavily vested in one resource."
