Octavia Spencer Joins Baggage Claim

With an Oscar on her mantelpiece thanks to The Help, Octavia Spencer continues to be an actress in demand. She’s turned her eye to romantic comedy, signing up to be part of the cast of Baggage Claim.

David E Talbert is on to direct the film for Fox Searchlight, which will find Paula Patton as an unlucky-in-love flight attendant who is the oldest unmarried woman in her family. Her sister is due to be wed in 30 days, so she decides that the most sensible option for her future romantic happiness is to go on a mad search for the perfect guy before the nuptials. Yes, we’re in that sort of territory.

We predict Spencer will lend the whole thing a little more credibility and wit, and given that Derek Luke is also on board, that Patton will probably find her man.

Spencer has been working steadily recently, wrapping up roles in Diablo Cody’s untitled directorial debut, action drama Snowpiercer and real-life tragedy tale Fruitvale.
