What's that siren sounding somewhere in Hollywood and – shortly - across social media? That would be the Remake Alert, the warning that someone is looking to tackle a classic or cult film. In this case, it's George Miller's fantastical 1987 comedy The Witches Of Eastwick, which Warner Bros. is looking to Pleasure director Ninja Thyberg to re-imagine.

According to Screen Daily, the filmmaker signed a deal to write the script and work on the new movie. The story – which scriptwriter Michael Cristofer adapted for Miller's film from John Updike's eponymous novel – focused on three single women in a picturesque village have their wishes granted, at a cost, when a mysterious and flamboyant man arrives in their lives. Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer starred as the trio, with Jack Nicholson as the mysterious and devilish type who makes a deal with them.

Thyberg's Pleasure, in which a 19-year-old woman heads from Sweden to Los Angeles with the aim of becoming a porn star, has been playing festivals such as Cannes, but has yet to secure a UK release date.
