While Guillermo del Toro usually brings fantastical visions to the screen, his latest, Nightmare Alley, for all the fantastic visuals on display, is more of a noir than anything he's made in the past. But with its stacked cast and sure hands behind the camera, it's certainly one to watch. Check out the first teaser trailer.

Nightmare Alley stars Bradley Cooper as Stanton “Stan” Carlisle, a manipulative carny who teams up with the dangerous psychiatrist Dr. Lillith Ritter (Cate Blanchett), making the pair a particularly unholy alliance.

Adapted by del Toro and Kim Morgan from William Lindsay Gresham's novel (first brought to the screen in 1947 with Tyrone Power as Stan), the new version promises striking imagery and, as the teaser makes clear, more to Cooper's character than meets the eye. Even if the director has confirmed that his latest is not a supernatural tale.

What it is, though, is bolstered by some top acting talent, with Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, David Strathairn, Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson and Mary Steenburgen all aboard.
