Nicole Kidman is A Wonder

Nicole Kidman seems to have been left with a taste for adventure after the epic sweep of working on Australia with Baz Luhrman. She's signed up for The Eighth Wonder, a globe-trotting action film for director Simon Kinberg.

The plot's still under wraps, but apparently "centres on an archaeological discovery that sets off a globe-spanning race". It sounds a bit National Treasure to us, but we're told that this will "be to Raiders of the Lost Ark what the Bourne movies are to the James Bond movies". This apparently means it will be a "character-driven, treasure-hunting thriller", as opposed to the thematic opposite of Raiders of the Lost Ark (which is certainly how director Paul Greengrass would describe the relationship between Bourne and Bond).

Kidman and Kinberg have been trying to work together for a while now - both were original slated to work on Mr and Mrs Smith before leaving the project to be replaced by Angelina Jolie and Doug Liman, and they also tried to reteam on a spy thriller after that. He's now got Kidman onboard to produce as well as star in this one, based on his pitch, and will write the script in the next few months. Let's hope it's third time lucky, and that this really is as good as either Bourne or Raiders.
