With Stoker and** The Paperboy** still in recent memory, Nicole Kidman is about to head into yet another mystery thriller. She'll be heading home to Australia for **Strangerland, with her fellow countrymen Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce joining her for the ride.

The indie drama involves a couple, Catherine and Matthew Parker, facing understandable strain on their relationship when both their children vanish in the Australian outback. The Parkers are, according to the only sketchy synopsis released so far, "forced to confront the mystery of their children's fate". Reports that a dingo ate them are unconfirmed at this time.

Kidman is, obviously enough, Catherine Parker, but whether Weaving or Pearce is playing Matthew remains to be seen. We'd hazard a guess that the other will either be playing a bad guy or a cop, but that's only wild genre-based surmise.

This is part of a slate of six films that Screen Australia has backed recently, creating $30m of production expenditure in the country. Its CEO Ruth Harley says that Strangerland has "a strong creative vision and massive A-list festival potential".

Fiona Seres and Michael Kiniron wrote the screenplay, and Kim Farrant will be calling the shots. Farrant has directed television and documentaries previously, but Strangerland marks her feature debut.
