Nicolas Cage Joins The Dying Of The Light

We're obsessed with two things here at the moment: Nicolas Cage, a recent and very awesome **Empire **podcast interviewee, and Paul Schrader's micro-budget, Lindsay Lohan-starring mindbomb, The Canyons. Before you read the first here and watch the trailer for the second here, we're pleased to be able to neatly gel the two into one Cage-and-Schrader-team-up story. Because if there's a *third *thing we love, it's neat gelling.

Speaking to the good people at Indiewire, Schrader revealed that the actor is in talks to headline his next film, The Dying Of The Light. The project is being steered to the screen by Red Granite, the production house behind Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street, among others, and will see Cage play a CIA agent whose eyesight has begun to fall him.

The Dying Of The Light is, as Indiewire point out, a project with previous. Nicolas Winding Refn was close to shooting it in 2010 but eventually withdrew when his star, Harrison Ford, refused to countenance a death scene. No word on whether that requirement has changed in the Schrader iteration, although Cage, a braver actor when it comes to embracing the great eternal, probably wouldn't demure should the role require it.

"I'm gonna make that this winter", Schrader told Indiewire, adding, "I think Nic Refn will be exec producer or something, [and] we have gotten an A-actor for that. He's agreed to the terms, but we're still negotiating the perks. I'll do that film starting at the end of the year."
