Here’s a casting switch up you don’t se every day – John Cusack playing a family man who’s actually a predatory hunter/killer and Nicolas Cage as the by-the-book state trooper who has to stop him before he commits more murders. But that’s the plan for writer/director Scott Walker, who is looking to put them both in The Frozen Ground.

Based on real events, Ground will track the story of Robert Hansen who, though he outwardly appeared to be a stable and sensible citizen, abducted more than 12 women over a 24-year period and flew them to the Alaskan wilderness, where he hunted and slaughtered them. That’s the role Cusack is in talks to take.

Cage, meanwhile, is pondering the more straight-laced part of the copper who finds Hansen’s only surviving victim on the street and works with her to finally bring him to the welcoming arms of justice.

It’s certainly an intriguing reversal of their typical performances, and might be an interesting watch, assuming they both lock in deals…
