Compared to its naturalistic first trailer, the new American spot for Andrea Arnold’s American Honey is a straight-up sales pitch. And it has plenty to sell, including a Cannes awards and plenty of buzz around the Fish Tank director and her young cast. Check it out below.
Like Fish Tank and Katie Jarvis, Arnold has recruited a relative unknown for her first foray to the US. Texan actress Sasha Lane is her new find. She plays Star, a young woman trying to escape her troubled life and find fulfilment and excitement on the road with a group of wanderers.
Shia LaBeouf's Jake and Riley Keough's Krystal, two of the misfits in question, lead her into new adventures and misadventures on an indie roadtrip around the Midwest. It’s a film that strives for authenticity – and by all accounts, finds it.
Look out for the Cannes Jury Prize winner at the TIFF, followed by a UK-wide release on October 14.
