The Mist TV Series

Frank Darabont brought existential horror, giant eldritch creatures and human disagreements to scary, dark life in the 2008 film adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist. A TV version of the story is also on the way, and the new trailer for the show is below.

The setup for this one maintains a lot of what King had in his original 1980 novella: a mysterious mist envelopes a Maine town, unleashing horrors on the populace. What follows is an exploration of how the characters respond to them. Suffice to say, there are a wide variety of reactions, from those who chose to fight back, some committing suicide and others deciding that the situation is divine judgement upon them.

Show-runner Christian Thorpe has previously said that he has found his way into the story instead of replicating the film's approach, reimagining the source material while staying true to the spirit of King's work. It remains to be seen how the concept stretches to series length, even if it's only 10-episode seasons.

Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic and Frances Conroy are among the ensemble, and the show hits US screens via Spike on 22 June. There's no sign of a UK channel picking it up yet.
