HBO has a new trailer for its upcoming detective series True Detective and it's more zinger-filled than a Louis CK sandwich. We're excited to see Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reunited at last and the pair look like they're having a blast driving around, solving crimes, shooting the shit and reminiscing about EDtv and Surfer, Dude. Click on the YouToob below to take a look.

The show's premise has Louisiana 'tecs Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson) scouring the state for a serial killer on the loose. And he's been on the loose for some time. The case relates to a strange, unsolved murder dating back to 1995 and it's been reopened, leaving the pair of lawman to follow up some long-cold leads.

Aside from boasting a pair of actors at the top of their game, HBO's crime drama looks sure to delve into some pretty dark terrain. The subdued colour palette is a world away from the lurid Louisiana of Treme. Even its new poster seems to a serious case of SAD.

HBO debuts True Detective in the US on January 12. No word on UK airing date yet, but this is one we'll be looking out for.
