Angry Birds

Millions have played Angry Birds, the mobile game that spawned a legion of copycats and more merchandising opportunities than you can shake a tail feather at. But how did the aggrieved avians become quite so furious? The Angry Birds Movie aims to fill in the back story, and the new trailer is now online.

Jason Sudeikis stars as Red, the one angry featherbrain in an island paradise who just can't seem to catch a break and is always fuming about it. There’s also speedster Chuck (Josh Gad), anger management therapist Matilda (Maya Rudolph), and the self-explanatory Bomb (Danny McBride). But then, joining the jamboree as initially innocent visitors from over the horizon, come a bunch of nautical pigs. Suffice to say, eggs get filched and war is soon declared.

Building on what we saw in the teaser, the new promo shows off some of the other characters, including Peter Dinklage's Mighty Eagle, introduced via an idea that we're fairly certain the game design team didn't foresee when they created the sweeping agent of destruction.

With directors Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly wrangling the madness and Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale and Keegan-Michael Key all lending their tonsil talents, The Angry Birds Movie will slingshot into UK cinemas on May 13.
