The first trailer for ‘80s hair tune-snorting jukebox musical Rock Of Ages dropped back in December. Now the second promo has arrived over at Apple, where you can watch it in all its swaggering, sweaty, glittering glory.
brightcove.createExperiences();With Adam Shankman at the helm and the camp factor turned up way past 11, this is the tale of small-town girl Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough), who arrives in Los Angeles looking to be a star. But she’s seduced by more than fame when she falls for both young bartender Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) and swaggering rock idol Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise).
Recycling a few moments from the first promo, this one expands a bit more on the story and includes some different laugh lines from Alec Baldwin’s OTT club manager, Dennis Dupree. Baldwin in particular looks to be having a lot of fun with the role, which hopefully translates to a good time at the cinema, even if the story is one we’ve heard told a thousand times before. But it’s also a chance to see Tom Cruise give his lungs a workout as prowling, preening, but perturbed megastar Jaxx. Can it work? Or will the reviews be as poisonous as some of those received by the Spinal Tap boys?
Either way, Rock Of Ages will mount our cinemas on June 15.
