The latest trailer for the remake of The Karate Kid is now online over at Yahoo Movies.
With Jaden’s Smith’s Dre Parker as the new Daniel Larusso and Jackie Chan as Mr Han standing in for Pat Morita’s Mr Miyagi, this still looks and sounds for all intents and purposes like a straight retelling of the original’s story.
Lonely youth moves to new place (in this case, Beijing) with his mother to start a new life. Falls afoul of local bullies who don’t like his attitude or his cornrows or just the fact that he’s the new face in the school. He’s rescued and then taught how to defend himself by a kindly local maintenance man who turns out to be a badass fighter.
Though given the emphasis on kung fu – Han’s line about how “everything is kung fu” is front and centre in the trailer – we still wonder why this isn’t called The Kung Fu Kid.
