It's no big secret that we're very very excited about A Game Of Thrones, the upcoming fantasy series based on George RR Martin's twisted novels. Sure, it's TV rather than strictly film, but this has huge potential so you're just going to have to bear with us.

The story centres on two houses, both alike in dignity: the Starks - led by Sean Bean's Eddard - and the royal Bartheons - led by Mark Addy's Robert. Complicating matters are Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and her family, particularly brothers Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Then there's exiled, deposed heir to the throne Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who's about to be married off to barbarian leader Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). And winter is coming, and that's seriously bad news.

The TV trailer gives you a taste of the cast in action, while the accompanying stills are probably more representative of the fact that it's going to be quite dark and quite talky. We should see the show not-soon-enough in 2011.

And because it's nearly Christmas, we're not even going to give writer George RR Martin a hard time about the fact that it's been FIVE YEARS since the last book and he promised at the time that he was nearly finished the following one. Sure, we might think he's dragging his heels and will never finish the damn thing, but we're not going to berate him for it. Again. We're just going to wish him a nice Christmas and a Happy New Year. A happy and, most especially, productive New Year. Ahem.
