Neill Blomkamp has had horror elements in his films before, but his latest, the low-budget, thriller Demonic promises to lean even harder into that genre. A first teaser for the movie offers up plenty of striking imagery, even if we're not yet sure about the exact story.
Carly Pope stars in the film, which according to the official synopsis, is about "a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed."
Shot (with safety precautions) at a remote Canadian location during the pandemic, Demonic features a typically Blomkampian blend of practical and CG effects, and an additional rotoscope-style element that adds an extra layer.
The film will be in UK and US cinemas on 20 August, with a Stateside VOD release on the same day.
