Having survived a troubled development and production process, Western drama Jane Got A Gun is taking aim at a cinema release. It should be on UK screens next year, and there’s a new trailer featuring Natalie Portman’s titular gun-toting prairie homesteader online.

Portman stars as Jane, trying to make a living on the tough New Mexico plains. But when her deadbeat husband Bill (Noah Emmerich) is double-crossed by his gang, she knows that the merciless mercenaries will be on their way to her home to finish the job. With a young daughter and a livelihood to protect, she realises that even her own abilities with a weapon might not be enough to hold off the hoodlums led by John Bishop (Ewan McGregor), so she recruits her old flame Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) to help her defend the place.

The stage is set for a showdown between the ruthless gang and the duo just trying to make sure the undertaker doesn’t need to pay a visit. With Rodrigo Santoro, Boyd Holbrook, Todd Stashwick and Nash Edgerton also in the cast and Gavin O’Connor in the director’s chair, Jane Got A Gun will arrive in the States on January 29 and should be out here shortly after that.
