After the news broke a few days ago about the Venom sequel looking to add the villainous character Shriek to its line-up, the replies to the story on Twitter largely referenced Shrek or featured gifs of DreamWorks Animation's big green ogre. And it'll probably already start again as word arrives that Naomie Harris is in talks to play her.

With Andy Serkis on to direct and Tom Hardy once again playing journalist Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote dark half, the cast also includes a returning Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson, who was included in a post-credits scene of the original as serial killer Cletus Kasaday, the human host for the even more dangerous creature known as Carnage.

Shriek, also known as Frances Barrison, was a drug dealer until she was exposed to something that allowed her latent mutant powers to emerge. In the comics, those powers include sonic energy blasts, flight, and the ability to stir up dark and violent emotions in others. She's often found as the partner in crime and lover of Carnage, so expect her to be causing trouble for Hardy and co.

Venom 2 is scheduled for release in October next year, so it'll kick off shooting soon. Harris will be back on our screens in cop thriller Black And Blue, due here on Friday, and returns as Moneypenny in the latest Bond outing, No Time To Die, landing in the UK on 3 April.
