Eddie Murphy has dropped the $5 million libel lawsuit he brought against the National Enquirer after they published a story entitled "Eddie Murphy's Secret Life: His Transvestite Hooker Tells All". Last week the comedian-actor released a joint statement with the Enquirer that said "Eddie Murphy has agreed to dismiss ... his libel lawsuit against the National Enquirer and its reporters. After an investigation of the matter, Mr. Murphy has concluded that the National Enquirer did not publish its article about Mr. Murphy with malice or recklessly." Eddie has also agreed to reimburse the tabloid's legal fees. The story, published in May, alleged that The Nutty Professor star picked up a twenty-year-old transvestite prostitute in West Hollywood, offering him $200 and asking to see him in lingerie. Murphy said he was just being a Good Samaritan, helping out the underprivileged. Make of it what you will.
