As he gets set to make his directorial debut with Transcendence, Wally Pfister is reaching out to more of the people he’s worked with in the past. Specifically, he’s finalising a deal for Morgan Freeman to join the cast.

Transcendence, which Pfister’s long-time collaborator Chris Nolan is producing, is being wrapped in the sort of plot-related security usually found on one of Nolan’s own movies.

What we know so far is that the story deals with artificial intelligence and that Johnny Depp will star alongside Paul Bettany, Kate Mara and Rebecca Hall in the tale of an experiment gone wrong. At least, that might be what it’s all about, from what we hear.

As for Freeman, there are zero details on what the gravel-voiced stalwart will be doing in the film, but we’re happy with the people that Pfister has rounded up so far.

Originated by Jack Paglen, the script has been through the hands of Annie Marter and development company Straight Up Films, with Warner Bros. distributing. Pfister looks set to start shooting shortly with an April 2014 release date planned. Freeman is now on screens in Oblivion, and you can see the latest trailer for that below, then read our review.
