Drones have become an increasing part of our lives; never more so than in combat overseas. But the morality of using these high-tech weapons has ventured into ever cloudier territory and the debate over targeting terrorists versus civilian collateral damage is key to the plot of new thriller Eye In The Sky, which has launched a new trailer.
The story finds Britain’s Operation Cobra board assembled when Susan Danford, now known as Aisha Al Hady (Lex King), a radicalized UK citizen who has joined Somali terrorist group Al Shabab, is spotted meeting high-ranking members of the organization. Initially, Colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) is ordered to capture her, but when drone surveillance discovers that they’re planning suicide attacks and have the weapons to hand, the instructions are quickly switched to taking them out by any means necessary. But then Nevada-based drone operator Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) spots a nine-year-old girl in the potential kill zone, and the debate starts to rage about whether a target like this is justified given the results.
With the likes of Alan Rickman, Barkhad Abdi, Iain Glen and Jeremy Northam in the cast, this one features a script by Guy Hibbert and Ender’s Game's Gavin Hood directing. The thriller will be out in the UK on April 8.
