Shot in a nervy, semi-documentary style, Monsters follows what happens when a space probe crashes in the New Mexico desert bearing samples of alien life. The extraterrestrial deposits quickly began to spawn into creatures that effectively take over a chunk of the US and Mexico. Now contained within a quarantine zone, they’re not exactly good neighbours. But then a tourist gets lost in the area and a journalist agrees to get them through the no-man’s land and back to safety. No prizes for guessing things go truly scare-shaped.
Edwards has made the smart move to keep his beasties in the dark, allowing our brains to do the work of making us terrified with sounds and the occasional flash of (impressively designed, given the tiny budget) non-human life. Check out the trailer over at Apple and let us know what you think.
