After an extensive search, Marvel and Mahershala Ali have locked in the choice to direct the new Blade film, which will finally bring the daywalker into the MCU. Mogul Mowgli director Bassam Tariq is that director.

Continuing their drive to find up-and-coming filmmakers from the indie world and hand them the giant tools of the Marvel movie machine, Kevin Feige and his team have been on the hunt for the right person, working with Ali to interview potential candidates and then invite the shortlist to bring in their vision. Tariq's won them all over, and now begins the final details of hammering out his deal.

Stacy Osei-Kuffour is working on the script for the film, which will once again bring the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan ostensibly as storytelling support to the fore. A vampire-human hybrid whose mother was bitten and killed by a bloodsucker during childbirth, he mostly famous came to the screen in the shape of Wesley Snipes for three movies.

Naturally, Marvel has not officially commented on the news, but if it all pans out, this is an exciting addition to the MCU's team of directors. Given its early stage, the movie has yet to nail down a release date.
