Mob vs. Student Action Comedy Picked Up

Mike White, actor, comedian and screenwriter on films like School of Rock, has seen his latest script, Babe in the Woods, picked up by Columbia. And in the grand old tradition of Alien vs. Predator and Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman, this pits a college student against the Mafia. Well, of course.

It centres on a female freshman who arrives from her home in the Midwest to attend Yale University, only to find herself targeted by the New Jersey mob (we know: she should've gone to Harvard). The result's going to be an "action-comedy", which will make a change from most college movies emerging from the US, which are either a) rom-coms aimed at 14 year-old girls or b) gross-out coms aimed at 13 year-old boys.

White's going to take another pass at the script before sending it out to directors, and will stay on as a producer on the film.
