Looking to make good on his promise to summon back as much of the surviving Machete cast as possible, Robert Rodriguez has now signed Michelle Rodriguez for M****achete Kills. And that’s not the only film she’s locked in a deal for – but more on that one in a moment…
Machete Kills will shoot first, kicking off production this month in Texas. Rodriguez is reprising her role as resistance leader Luz. This time around, she’ll be helping Danny Trejo’s titular Federale hunt down Mendez The Madman, Mexico’s biggest cartel leader. Oh, and there’s also the small matter of another terrorist nutter to deal with in the shape of arms dealer Luther Voz (Mel Gibson), who is looking to spread war across the world by launching a deadly missile.
Before we go on, beware of spoilers for one of Empire’s favourite movies of last year, just in case you haven’t watched it yet (why ever not!)…
The mid-credits sting on Fast Five (or Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist as it was known on the poster over here) revealed that Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)’s lady love Letty, who seemingly perished in Fast & Furious, may not be dead at all. And with Rodriguez officially signing on for the sixth film, looks like she’ll be back with a vengeance. She’ll join Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster and new recruit Gina Carano.
This is clearly Rodriguez’ year to report back for duty on franchise: she’ll also be seen in Resident Evil: Retribution (she was in the original film and was also apparently killed there), which brings the zombie madness back on September 28.
