It’s been a long time since Michelle Pfeiffer opened her pipes on screen. You practically have to go back to Grease 2 to see her musical roots (we’ll skip any Dangerous Minds rapping).
And now she’s thinking about getting back into the swing with Hairspray. She’s negotiating to play Velma Von Tussel, a producer on the movie musical’s central star-seeking TV show. Velma’s a former beauty queen who has seen better days. Now, bitter and cynical, she’s not impressed by the latest new talents.
If she does sign up, she’ll be joining the likes of John Travolta, Queen Latifah and newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who will play the lead role of Tracy Turnblad.
Pfeiffer, meanwhile, will definitely be seen in the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust, which she’s filming right now.
