Nine years after his tragic death, former IXS frontman Michael Hutchence’s life has come under the biopic-scope.

Music video helmer Nick Egan will direct Slide Away, which will feature a script by Chester Hastings and Dean McCreary. Producer Clark Westerman had been trying to convince Egan for five years to do a film, but it finally took cash-in US TV show Rock Star: INXS (in which the band used a reality show format to find a new singer) to push the pair into action.

”I told him, ‘Somebody else is going to do it, and they are not going to do it as well as you would because you knew him so well,’” Westerman explains to The Hollywood Reporter on how he got Egan to agree. The movie takes its title from a posthumous duet between U2 warbler Bono and Hutchence.

But the film won’t be focusing on his death, according to Westerman: “That is not the memory of what we are after, and that's not the story of who the man is. What we are aiming for is the journey through a person's life via their head."
